I knew Andrew very well. He worked in the 18th Battalion before going to the Squad18 He was also married to my wife’s niece, Michelle. I always knew he was a great firefighter, what I didn’t know was that he was an outstanding firefighting instructor. He traveled around the country and impressed many people with his knowledge of fire tactics, especially as it pertains to Engine Operations.
When I began attending the golf outings in California in 2002 to honor Andrew, I was amazed at the amount of people that came from all over the country to pay tribute to Andrew. The outings continued until there was enough money to make the most beautiful sculpture of Andrew, that is now positioned at the entrance to the Rockland County Fire Training Center. For all who knew Andrew and are able to make the trip to see it, you will be astonished as to its likeness.
The FDNY lost 343 tremendous people on 9/11/01 Andrew was one of them. I am sure God found a place in heaven for all of them.
