On 9/11, Squad 18 was scheduled for a daylong training drill on tanker explosions at the Fire Academy on Randall’s Island. Instead, they were one of the first units called up. That evening he had been scheduled to be part of a charity event he’d helped organize for the New York-Cornell Burn Center.
McGinn left behind a young son and daughter, 8- and 6-years old.
