Lt. William McGinn

207 McGinn fbLt. William McGinn, was trained as a civil engineer but thought firefighting would be more interesting work. An 18-year FDNY veteran, his wife said, “He understood how structures and materials fail. He would have had a field day with this one.”

On 9/11, Squad 18 was scheduled for a daylong training drill on tanker explosions at the Fire Academy on Randall’s Island.  Instead, they were one of the first units called up. That evening he had been scheduled to be part of a charity event he’d helped organize for the New York-Cornell Burn Center.

McGinn left behind a young son and daughter, 8- and 6-years old.
